چکیده

Researchers all over the world have contributed various scientific studies to understand coastal aquifers characteristics and to study sea water intrusions phenomenon. While evaluating the impact of sea water on ground water system near the coast some pertinent points haunt the scientific community. In this technical contribution authors has raised some burning issues and points. Though, such issues and dilemmas were emerged in the analysis and discussions in past but the error and its magnitude, reliability of analyzed data, volume and source of authenticity of input field data, practical acceptance of solutions suggested etc. are some points that need introspection. Precise and better scientific analysis and solutions may be thought for future research directions and focus can be made on some of the points and issues raised. Based on interdisciplinary approaches accuracy in “evaluation plan and procedure” can be achieved scientifically and the challenges of uncertainty of seawater intrusion assessment can be dealt in totality. Predictions required should be done in a realistic timeframe in respect of any particular geological domain, country or specific area. In brief, this original and must to read article encompasses technical material for the entire scientific community.

Impact of sea-level rise on sea water intrusion in coastal aquifers.

Despite its purported importance, previous studies of the influence of sea-level rise on coastal aquifers have focused on specific sites, and a generalized systematic analysis of the general case of the sea water intrusion response to sea-level rise has not been reported. In this study, a simple conceptual framework is used to provide a first-order assessment of sea water intrusion changes in c...

Assessment of Saltwater Pollution in Azarshahr Plain Groundwater, Iran: Conjugating GALDIT Method and Geostatistics

Overutilization of groundwater resources can put their quality under stress. It could be base on rapid declination in groundwater level leading to salt water intrusion in the coastal aquifers. The objective of this study was to map the vulnerability of salt water intrusion of the Urmia Lake, Iran to nearby coastal aquifer (Azarshahr) using GALDIT method. The GALDIT index based on six parameters...

Application of an Analytical Solution as a Screening Tool for Sea Water Intrusion.

Sea water intrusion into aquifers is problematic in many coastal areas. The physics and chemistry of this issue are complex, and sea water intrusion remains challenging to quantify. Simple assessment tools like analytical models offer advantages of rapid application, but their applicability to field situations is unclear. This study examines the reliability of a popular sharp-interface analytic...

Laboratory study of the simultaneous effect of discharge well and cut of wall on reducing saltwater intrusion in coastal aquifers

These days, the sea level rising and excessive harvesting of coastal aquifers has caused the intrusion of saltwater into underground water sources. In this study, the performance of the use of cut of wall, discharge well, and their simultaneous use in preventing saltwater intrusion has been evaluated in a laboratory model and under different scenarios. The results show that the appropriate use ...

Abstraction, desalination and recharge method to control seawater intrusion into unconfined coastal aquifers

In this study, abstraction, desalination and recharge method and SEAWAT numerical model are used to investigate seawater intrusion repulsion in a hypothetical two-dimensional coastal aquifer to understand the relation of seawater intrusion with abstraction, desalination and recharge parameters (i.e. abstraction/recharge rate, wells distance and depth). Abstraction, desalination and recharge con...
